April 2026 India Intercessor

President & CEO Todd VanEk with Indian children at a Bible Club

Friends,

Have you ever tried to read Romans without re-reading any parts? It feels almost impossible. Paul uses long sentences to communicate some really complicated ideas, and I often go back over a paragraph two or three times to really understand what he’s saying.

Because of this, I’m so grateful that there’s an easier way to come to faith than reading complicated books of the Bible. Paul says, “faith comes through hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17).

And this is what we see in Adult Literacy Classes: students hear about Christ through Bible stories that their instructors share. This means that the Bible begins to feel accessible to them!

But we know that following Jesus doesn’t stop with just hearing Bible stories. In Romans 15, Paul writes, “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that… through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” (v. 4).

This is what makes me excited about our Adult Literacy classes: First, Literacy Class teachers introduce students to Jesus in accessible ways, then the classes equip those students to continue learning about Him through their literacy training. So when Adult Literacy Class students graduate and they receive their very first Bibles, they are fully equipped to grow in their faith.

Friends, I am so excited to see a church in India that can read their Bibles. And with our Adult Literacy Matching Challenge continuing through the end of this month, I am so excited to see how God uses your prayers and matched gifts to make the Bible accessible to more Adult Literacy students than ever before!

Together, for India,

Todd VanEk
President & CEO of Mission India
