From Grief to Goodness

The love of a brother is a love many take for granted. Akshad would learn this heartbreaking reality in a bitter way.

Akshad and his older brother, Kavinesh, were as close as two brothers could be. When their mother faced debilitating health problems, Kavinesh took it upon himself to provide for his brother Akshad’s emotional needs. They did everything together.

Akshad’s heart broke the day his brother died. It was an accident, but Akshad wanted so badly to take revenge on the people responsible for Kavinesh’s death. For this reason, Akshad’s broken heart could not know peace.

Until he heard about a Year-Long Children’s Bible Club.

Though he had felt emotionally removed from life since his brother died, Akshad decided to give the Bible Club a chance when his friends invited him. Shy at first, Akshad grew to enjoy the community within the program. Slowly, he engaged in sports, songs, dances, and learning.

Intrigued to learn more about the joy he could see in the Bible Club leader, Akshad grew curious about the life of Christ. While reading Scripture, he was particularly struck by the passage of Romans 8:28:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

As Akshad meditated on this verse, he came to realize that Jesus Christ wanted him to receive the goodness of God. Akshad knew the best way to honor Christ’s desire was to receive and follow him.

And so he did.

Though Akshad lost a beloved brother, he was comforted by the knowledge that he was adopted into the family of God. Now, he had a wealth of Christian brothers and sisters! They could walk alongside him in his grief and remind him of Christ’s omnipotent power to heal our broken hearts.

We ask that you continue to pray for Akshad’s emotional health and well-being, along with that of his parents. Also, please pray that his parents would come to know Christ as the living God.
