As another state in India considers passing a sweeping anti-conversion bill—making it the 13^th state to pass this sort of law—I’ve been thinking about SCUBA equipment.

“SCUBA” is an acronym for “Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus.” It’s the type of gear that swimmers wear to venture into places they’d never be able to go otherwise. It’s also the type of gear you’d want handy when hundreds of pounds of water pressure are closing in around you.

As believers in India face this anti-conversion bill and the pressure that may build from its ratification, they need their spiritual SCUBA gear.

Just like SCUBA gear protects swimmers, helping them to reach the far corners of the oceans, the gift of the Holy Spirit protects India’s believers, filling them with spiritual breath and helping them to reach the far corners of India.  

As you pray for India this month, keep the nation’s anti-conversion laws—and the believers they affect—in mind. Pray for hope, joy, and peace, knowing that their spiritual SCUBA equipment is at hand.

Pray that even as they face pressure from all sides, they would say, as Paul did, in faith:

“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9).

Why? Because they have the Holy Spirit.
