How (Not) to Write Your Life Story

If your life was a book, what would it be like? Would you be a brave heroine with an epic character arc? Or a clumsy but lovable woman in a relaxed beach read? Perhaps most days your life feels more like reading an encyclopedia than it does a bestselling page-turner.
In a world that tells us we all deserve our own “main character moment,” it can be easy to forget who is authoring our stories.
David writes in Psalm 139:16 that, “all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.” This psalm teaches us that God knows us, loves us, and is writing a good story for each of our lives. For Jada, a young girl growing up in a rural Indian village, the idea of a loving and compassionate God was hard to imagine.
Hardship and struggle were daily realities in Jada’s home. Her father did his best to support their family of eight working as a daily wage laborer, but they barely scraped by. Although Jada attended school, she struggled with the work and her parents lacked the knowledge to help her. Jada also faced discrimination because of her family’s ethnic group, which damaged her confidence and self-esteem.
Yet even amid these challenges, God began using Jada to write a beautiful redemption story for her family.
When a Children’s Bible Club began in Jada’s village, she started attending out of curiosity. The fun skits and catchy action songs kept her coming back. Week after week, Jada found herself increasingly drawn in by the Bible verses and stories about Jesus’ life. Renjini, who led the Bible Club, constantly encouraged Jada, teaching her that God loves her and has a purpose for her life. Slowly, Jada embraced Jesus and, as she did, her confidence began to blossom.
Just when Jada’s faith was taking root, her dad got very sick. Yet Jada did not waver. She prayed boldly in Jesus’ name for her father’s healing and he became well! This miraculous healing was a testimony that opened the hearts of Jada’s entire family to Christ. Jada and her family began attending church, praying together, and growing in faith—all thanks to Jada’s bold willingness to let God use her. What is God trying to show you through Jada’s story? Can you see the story He is writing in your own life?
