September 2025 India Intercessor

President & CEO Todd VanEk with Indian children at a Bible Club

Friends,

It’s back-to-school season in the US, and it is no different in India! Our brothers and sisters on the other side of the world are gearing up for the beginning of new Adult Literacy Classes and Year-Long Children’s Bible Clubs, and I am so excited.

One of the first things students will learn in our Adult Literacy Classes is the life-changing skill of writing their own name. Without this skill, India’s adults can’t sign legal documents or open bank accounts, so when they sign their name for the first time, a whole world opens up to them.

More than this, we know from the Bible that names have power! In Proverbs 22:1 it says, “A good name is more desirable than great riches.” But this verse isn’t about having a nice-sounding name. The author is talking about what our names stand for: our character and our worth.

So for the men and women who are about to begin Adult Literacy Classes this fall, writing their name is not only legal power, but it is also an experience in dignity unlike any other. I have heard story after story of illiterate Indian adults lighting up because they’ve written their name for the first time.

And friends, this is the Gospel! Adults all over India have come to Jesus and are going to come to Jesus because He cares about their dignity and sees them as worthy Children of God. Truly, this is greater than riches.

As you join me in prayer this month, remember our Adult Literacy students, who are learning to write their names for the first time. I’m so excited to see how the Holy Spirit is going to move in them.

Together, for India,

Todd VanEk
President & CEO of Mission India
