Discipleship Changed Mujab’s Life
Aruvi was the leader of a Children’s Bible Club in a village in southern India. One of the children she discipled was Mujab, a 12-year-old boy. Mujab was a rude and physically violent child. He disrespected his teachers at school and was rude to Aruvi at the Bible Club, too.
On top of these behavioral issues, Mujab’s attendance in school was irregular and he consistently wore dirty clothing. Despite Aruvi’s attempts to teach Mujab about cleanliness, he refused to change his behavior.
One day, that all changed. While enjoying a snack at the Bible Club, Mujab opened up and shared with Aruvi about the troubling aspects of his family. He shared about his family’s financial struggles and their lack of consistent meals. Mujab also told Aruvi that his father never provided snacks because he spent all his money on alcohol. Plus, Mujab’s father physically abused his wife and demanded money from her to feed his addiction. This behavior caused conflicts with neighbors and relatives, disrupting the whole family.
As Aruvi listened, he recognized the negative influence Mujab’s father had on Mujab’s behavior. But Aruvi decided she’d take it into her own hands to invest in Mujab, creating a place for Mujab to share his daily experiences with friends. Aruvi dedicated special time to discipling Mujab.
One day, Aruvi shared the story of the prodigal son and it deeply moved Mujab. After asking many questions, he understood his own father’s need for God’s love.
From that day on, Aruvi noticed a remarkable change in Mujab’s behavior and attitude. He became kind and interacted with others without using foul language or physical violence.
Months into the Year-Long Bible Club, Christmas was quickly approaching, and Aruvi asked the children what gifts they hoped to receive. To Aruvi’s surprise, Mujab asked for a Bible. Honoring his wish, Aruvi gifted Mujab a Bible and encouraged him to read a chapter of Proverbs every day. Mujab took this seriously and even began to pray for his father regularly. Today, Mujab has become a great support to his mother and siblings.
Will you pray for Mujab and his family to come to the saving knowledge of Christ?
