Created to Lead the Next Generation
Mom. Friend. Mentor. Teacher. Each and every one of these titles holds weight in leading the next generation. These are just a few of the titles that many women hold – which ones apply to you?
You were innately created by God to nurture and raise up the next generation. And this often looks different as you move through different seasons of life. A mother may focus all her attention on raising her children to know Christ. Meanwhile, a college student may find herself serving in a youth ministry and investing her time in a small group of girls.
No matter what season you find yourself in, the important thing to remember is that God created us to raise up the next generation to know and love Him.
We are reminded of this in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Although this may feel weighty, you can find peace knowing that God gives you the wisdom and guidance you need while teaching the next generation. Plus, you are also united with millions of other women all over the globe who are doing the same!
One believer, Ismita, is committed to leading the next generation in India. Ismita shares her story of God calling her to become a Year-Long Children’s Bible Club leader, “When I surrendered myself to God, He began speaking to me about ministry. He told me to pray for the children to obey Him and walk in His ways.” That doesn’t mean God’s call on Ismita’s life was easy, though! She goes on to share, “I began to pray for them but told God I wouldn’t teach them.”
But just as God does for you as you raise up children, students, nieces, or granddaughters, He provided Ismita with reassurance. “God said, ‘I lead you, I will guide you in everything.’ God pointed me to Proverbs 22:6 and I accepted the responsibility of leading children in Bible Clubs.”
Today, Ismita leads the next generation wholeheartedly, recognizing the reward of following this call on her life. “The word tells us that even if a child strays from God, one day they will be led to build a relationship with our God,” she says.
God is constantly working on your heart and paving the way in which He wants you to go, just like He did for Ismita. As you wrestle with where God may be calling you to lead the next generation, remember that He created you for exactly this.
