Baneet: Knowledge Facilitates Positive Change
Although Baneet was raised in a family that followed Jesus, he never believed or went to church. Instead, he pursued worldly pleasures and drank alcohol excessively. When he was drunk, Baneet often abused his wife, Dhuni, and their two teenage sons. However, when Baneet was sober, he genuinely loved his family and wanted to care for them, but his struggle with addiction persisted, creating much pain and turmoil in their home.
One day, Dhuni met Hamida, a local Adult Literacy Class teacher. When Dhuni learned about the class, she eagerly enrolled; however, Baneet suspected she might be having an affair instead of attending the Literacy Class, which caused even more problems at home.
While Dhuni loved going to the Literacy Class, she was forced to quit because of Baneet. When Hamida learned of Dhuni’s situation, she visited the couple. She spoke kindly and respectfully to Baneet and explained what happened in the Adult Literacy Class, and then she invited him to come and see for himself.
Baneet attended the class with Dhuni the following day and continued to join her when he was sober. After about a month, Baneet developed a fondness for the class, and soon, he became one of the most dedicated students! As Baneet and Dhuni learned to read and write, they also heard teachings from the Word of God, which got them thinking about Jesus.
The couple took advantage of a special training offered through the Literacy Class that taught them how to live a healthy lifestyle. They now grow organic fruits and vegetables and practice good hygiene. Baneet understands the consequences of his drinking and is working hard to quit. He has asked Hamida to pray for him so that he will no longer hurt his wife and children.
Dhuni is very happy and now seeks God in everything she does. She thanks Him for the amazing change in her family and is especially grateful to Hamida for sharing the Bible with them and teaching them a good lifestyle. Dhuni and Baneet attend church services every Sunday. Please pray that they will decide to receive Jesus as their Savior and follow His teachings in every area of their lives.
