A Young Woman Triumphs Over Disability

Mohsina grew up in a small rural community where illiteracy was common and most people didn’t understand the value of education. Yet Mohsina had an innate desire to learn, and from a young age she constantly asked her parents to send her to school.

Her parents eventually gave in, allowing Mohsina to attend the village school. Sadly, although Mohsina loved attending, the lessons were terribly difficult for her. She constantly mixed up the letters and reading felt like a jumble of words on a page. Her parents soon concluded that she wasn’t intelligent enough to learn and pulled her out of school.

Thankfully, Mohsina got a second chance at education when she was 20 years old and an Adult Literacy Class began in her village. She jumped at the chance to join and was determined to succeed this time. Mohsina began attending the class every day and set her mind to learning how to read and write.

Birrah, the Literacy Class teacher, quickly noticed that Mohsina was showing signs of dyslexia. Moved by Mohsina’s determination to learn, Birrah began to spend extra time helping Mohsina with the lessons. Slowly, with Birrah’s constant encouragement and patient instruction, Mohsina finally learned to read and write!

Once Mohsina was literate, a whole new world opened up to her! Mohsina’s joy grew as she soaked up every song, story, and book that Birrah shared with her. Then, Mohsina began sharing the joy of reading with younger children in her village, reading books to them and encouraging them to go to school. Soon, she even began teaching the children how to read!

What a testament to the power of relationship—Birrah diligently tutored Mohsina, and then she turned around and did the same for others around her! Please pray that Mohsina also sees the value of the Gospel and comes to a saving knowledge of Christ.
