This Little Light… Online?

Let’s be honest—the internet can be a pretty discouraging place.

Whether it’s arguments in the Facebook comment section or complaints on your neighborhood NextDoor page, engaging online often brings us down. It’s so easy to be caught up in the day’s online drama or lose a couple hours to scrolling.

Do you want to flip the script?

As believers, Jesus invites us to “be the light of the world.” He goes on to say that when we let our light shine, it not only gives light to everyone, but brings glory to God (Matthew 5:14-16). Because we have the light of Christ within us, we can bring light to the world—one interaction at a time.

Take a second and think about the last interaction you had with someone else. Did you add something positive to their day? Yes? That’s awesome! If not, what could you have done differently?

Being a Difference Maker is as simple as getting intentional about encouraging others. Hebrews 13:3 tells believers to, “encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘today.’”

I’m in. But do you have anything more practical I can do?

Absolutely! For starters, it could be as simple as offering someone a smile or a compliment. Or perhaps adding a line to that email to your coworker, affirming their gifts and thanking them for being a good teammate. And sometimes, it’s about what you don’t say, such as using wisdom to not engage in a complaint session happening in the breakroom.

Choosing to bring joy and positivity into our spaces—both online and in the real world—is downright counter-cultural. But when we approach life with a positive posture, it will make a difference to those around us. Proverbs 16:24 promises, “gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”

Wait—what does this all have to do with believers in India?

So glad you asked! At Mission India, we believe that prayer and encouragement are a vital part of missions. And you—yes, you—have an opportunity to join us in this! In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we have created an Encouragement Wall where you can write a prayer or note of encouragement that we will deliver to our ministry partners in India. Click here to encourage believers in India today!
