Mission India

Intense rainfall caused flash floods and landslides across the nation of India this summer. In the northeast alone, nearly 1 million people have been affected by record-breaking rainfall that claimed nearly 100 lives.

For their safety, many have been evacuated from their homes and villages but have been unable to find adequate food and shelter. Will you offer them relief?

Flooding Fast Facts

Record-breaking rainfall in July and August 2026 have caused devastating floods and life-changing damage. Infrastructure has been overwhelmed, with roads, bridges, homes, and farmland being destroyed. In the state of Gujarat alone, 40,000 people have been evacuated from their homes. Meanwhile, in the state of Odisha, thousands of acres of farmland were submerged, spelling disaster for agricultural communities’ livelihoods. Far to the north in Jammu & Kashmir, hundreds of mountain-dwelling communities are without electricity or clean water.

India’s 2026 flood damage has spanned across multiple states in many regions of India. Here is a glimpse of what the destruction has looked like in select states:

Assam

Some of the most significant damage caused by recent flooding is in the northeastern state of Assam. More than 705,000 people were affected by heavy flooding and overflowing rivers that damaged homes, flooded farms, and claimed over 70 lives. Over 900 villages were submerged, and 7,000 homes lost electricity. 3 projects were affected, and one Adult Literacy teacher lost her home.

Gujarat

Over 40,000 people have been evacuated from their homes amid heavy rainfall. Rain-related incidents claimed 14 lives in July. All programs were paused for multiple days at a time for the safety of learners, children, and local believers.

Kerala

Heavy rainfall caused flooding and landslides that claimed 21 lives at the beginning of August. Many villages remain flooded, with a staggering 31 projects affected.

Nagaland

Rainfall measured at 181% above expected in Nagaland, causing severe flooding and landslides that took 11 lives from mid-July to the beginning of August. Five Children’s Bible Clubs were disrupted, 5 projects were paused, and special trainings for Nagaland’s Club leaders were rescheduled to protect our partners.

Jammu & Kashmir

Continuous and heavy rainfall over three districts in Jammu & Kashmir resulted in flash floods and landslides that claimed more than 27 lives in July. Essential infrastructure, including electricity poles, fiber networks, and roads, have been damaged or destroyed, leaving several remote villages cut off from aid. 6 Adult Literacy Class and Church Planting projects have been affected, with some losing their homes as well as access to basic necessities.

Odisha

Odisha was hit by heavy rainfall in the last few weeks of July. Floodwaters destroyed hundreds of villages, affecting roads, agricultural land, and public infrastructure. At least two programs—one Adult Literacy Class project and one Children’s Bible Club project—have been affected.

Hundreds of Adult Literacy Classes, Children’s Bible Clubs, and Church Plants have been affected. Partners and participants in our programs alike have lost their homes, crops, and personal belongings. They have an immediate need for groceries, medicine, safe drinking water, and hygiene products.
