Recently we received three reports within four days of each other of persecution of Christian workers in India. The Christians were falsely charged, by radical anti-Christian mobs, with forcefully converting persons to Christianity. Persecution by mob harassment is increasing and India is now rated as the 11th highest nation among the nations of the world in which persecution of Christians regularly occurs. How are we to view persecution, with sadness or rejoicing? God uses the work of the devil and triumphantly spreads the Good News through it. Is not the cross of Christ the epitome of the defeat of Satan?
The book of Acts is a book of persecution. The first church fled out of Jerusalem and the new Christians joyfully proclaimed Christ wherever they went! Wherever Paul went he faced persecution…joyfully!
Mrs. Staines, an India missionary, was left a widow when an anti-Christian mob in Odisha, India burned her husband and two sons to death by dousing their jeep with gasoline while they were sleeping. Yet Satan was defeated when she and her daughter sang these words at the funeral and they were broadcast on live TV to the whole of India. Because He lives I can face the future, because He lives all fear is gone…
Pray for those persecuted. Rejoice! God always wins!
Until India is transformed,
