On the 4th of July we celebrate “Independence Day” in America. As Americans, we are proud of our independence. But not all independence is good! We are told in Matthew 18:3 that unless we change our ways (from being independent) and become as little children, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. God desires dependence from us, like the dependency of a little child on his parents. A child who has good parents never worries about food or security; even though he does not understand everything, he trusts his parents for both.
The heart and soul of following Jesus is summed up in one word: trust. We trust that He will work out all things for good for all who depend on Him. Pray this month that those little boys and girls in our 10-day Children’s Bible Clubs throughout India will depend on and trust in the living and loving Jesus.
George W. Chadwick published the words of this classic hymn back in 1890:
I sought the Lord and afterward I knew,
He moved my soul to seek Him, seeking me.
It was not I that found, O Savior true.
No, I was found of Thee.
Thou didst reach forth Thy hand and mine enfold;
I walked and sank not on the storm-vexed sea;
‘Twas not so much that I on Thee took hold,
As Thou, dear Lord, on me.
This month we join together as a worldwide group of believers to express our dependency on Jesus by praying that He will bless India. India is home to 444 million children under the age of 18 … and the number increases every year! If India continues to grow at this rate, it is predicted to be the world’s largest nation by the year 2022. Keep praying and trusting Jesus!
Until India is transformed,
