We begin the New Year, 2017 today. What are your plans? Will you begin the year with resolutions (which are often all-too-soon broken)? While on earth, Jesus always began with prayer. And we’d like to suggest you do the same thing.
Read Matthew 4:1-11. What did Jesus do to engage the devil? Did he rehearse a number of arguments? Did he plan a clever strategy? No, he spent forty days in intense prayer and fasting. Jesus sensed that a great confrontation was at hand, and so he prepared for it by praying, by seeking the will of His Father in heaven.
In Luke 6:12, we find Jesus spending an entire night in prayer, prior to calling the twelve disciples. Jesus also knew about and referred often to His death and resurrection. As it drew near, Jesus sweat drops of blood as He prepared for his coming trial and death. And through His prayers, He was enabled by the Father to bear the horrible suffering and death, which He faced.
Prayer is the primary foundation of Mission India. Through your prayers and our partners in India, we see the Lord bringing forth tremendous spiritual fruit. For example, we’d like to tell you about a young boy named Balraj. His parents didn’t think he would live to his 13th birthday. Balraj had lost two of his sisters, both twelve years old, after falling ill with a strange and fatal fever. His parents believed they had angered Kali, the goddess of death, and were certain Balraj would meet the same fate. But then Balraj joined a Children’s Bible Club, where he learned about Jesus, the God who does powerful miracles, and began praying to Him. The day Balraj turned 13, his parents cried tears of joy. They celebrated, and the whole family decided to follow Jesus. They are thankful to be free from fear. Be encouraged that your prayers are making a big difference every single day in the nation of India.
Until India is transformed,
