God’s Presence in Trials | Persecution Sunday, Day 3

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:20

“But Peter and John replied, ‘Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.’” – Acts 4:19-20

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” – Ephesians 6:12

You’ve seen a glimpse of this in the past two days through stories of persecuted believers in India giving up their homes, their possessions, their freedom, their jobs, their families, their reputations, and their lives. Like Peter and John, many of these believers have decided in advance to not compromise their witness, no matter what. They feel compelled to pay any price for the sake of bringing the Good News to India.

A couple of months ago, a member of our team at Mission India met a man named Fidaa who experienced violent persecution because of his faith several years back. Fidaa was chased through the jungle, attacked with a machete, and left for dead. He shares, “The next day I woke up. I was covered in blood but not dead. I tried to crawl toward my home but soon came to know that they also sliced the backs of my legs. I fell face down on the ground. Then two people came to me, dressed in white. They lifted me up under my arms and carried me to my house. After that my wife found me and took me to the hospital. Who could they be? Only angels! By God’s grace am I alive today.”

Praise God that He stands by His people and provides! We may never face persecution on the scale that Fidaa did, but when we take risks for our faith, we can be empowered in the knowledge that God has already won the spiritual battle of the world, and He goes before us and stands beside us when we suffer.

Do you live out each day trusting that the Holy Spirit is in you, equipping you to take risks for Christ?

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, remind me that you are with me when I am nervous to share the Gospel, stand up for my faith, or follow God’s call for me to take a risk for Him.
