Just a couple of months ago, we told you about the heavy rains and severe floods in south India, which affected more than 1.8 million people.
The floodwaters have receded in south India, but the needs are still tremendous.
Families are grieving the hundreds who died. And many try to return home, only to discover their houses were swept away or severely damaged in the floods. Food and water are scarce and costly.
We praise God for our partners, who continue to be the hands and feet of Christ in this area.
They are praying for grieving families …
They are opening their homes and churches to those without a place to sleep …
And they made and handed out over 1,000 relief kits to meet the needs of their neighbors.
Many of the people who received these kits said that they expected just clothes and blankets. They were amazed to be given rice, spices, soap, detergent, clothes, blankets, cooking pans, plates, cups, spoons, sleeping mats, a backpack, a bucket, and mosquito netting!
One man named Raj shared that his family’s hut and all their belongings were washed away in the flood waters. They found shelter at a local school, but had no money to buy anything. “At this time of dire need, your relief kit has been a great help to us. A thousand thanks to you,” Raj says.
Laxmi and her husband, Kuppu, received a relief kit, too. Laxmi is a believer, but her husband opposed her faith in Christ. He prohibited her from going to church. They live in poverty and earn just a little working in the fields, but when the flood hit, they couldn’t work … so they couldn’t eat. For two weeks, Laxmi and Kuppu survived on broth. Then, they were given a relief kit. They were so happy. Kuppu was amazed at the love and compassion shown by Christians. Since then, he has been attending church with Laxmi to learn more. Praise the Lord!
Thank you for your continued prayers for the communities affected by this devastating flood.
Many of our ministry partners in this area had to put their Adult Literacy Classes, Children’s Bible Clubs, and Church Planter Training on hold. (Some of the places they met were underwater … and some were washed away in the floods.) But we praise God that all of our affected ministry partners now have resumed the Adult Literacy Classes, Children’s Bible Clubs, and Church Planter Training!
