An Ordinary Day

An unexpected invitation to a literacy class opens door to lasting transformation

March 31, 2010

Rani started working alongside her parents when she was just a little girl. They barely earned enough to survive off their work making tin cans and boxes.

A few years later, Rani started working at construction sites, too, to bring in extra money.

Little Rani used to sigh as she saw other little village children laughing as they walked to school in the mornings. Every day, she had to face the drudgery of work.

Rani secretly dreamed of getting an education, but she didn’t dare tell her parents. It was an impossible hope. Her family barely scraped together enough money to live on.

Now 19 years old, Rani thought things would never change.

It started as just an ordinary day. Walking miles to another construction site for a day of hard manual labor, she could already feel the heat of the day beginning. Her muscles still ached from yesterday’s work.

Then something extraordinary happened.

That evening, a man stopped by her family’s small house. He invited them to attend a free Adult Literacy Class.

Rani turned to her parents with pleading eyes. And not only did they give her permission to go, they signed up for literacy classes, too!

An eager student, Rani learned to read and write in very little time.

The literacy teacher shared the Gospel with his class and prayed for them. That day, Rani put her faith in the one true God. She accepted Jesus as her Savior!

Later, Rani’s parents and siblings also came to a saving knowledge of Christ. They were all baptized as a family!

Recently, Rani was engaged to a Christian man. Please ask for God’s blessings on their marriage.
